David Wales David Wales Human and citizen experience

David is an international consultant specialising in the human behaviours and motivations that so strongly influence all stages of the disaster cycle. Using service design and associated methodologies he ensures that the requirements and contribution of all stakeholders (whole society approach) are represented and integrated. This includes a particular interest in bridging the gap between formal and informal responders.

He works across multiple sectors and with a diverse range of organisations including commercial companies, government departments, academia and not for profit organisations. As well as project-based roles, David is an advisor to the Avoidable Deaths Network and Advisory Panel member of the Crisis Response Journal.

Known for his progressive approach and ability to draw out new perspectives and insights, David is also an established author (currently writing his first book), facilitator, and award-winning presenter.

Prior to his current role, David had a distinguished career in the Fire and Rescue Service (FRS), where he instigated and led a pioneering study of human behaviour and motivation. His insights from this study and the cross-sector links he established resulted in David's appointment as the first Customer Experience Manager in the FRS.
