Ronald Christiaans Ronald Christiaans Emergency Management

Since 1988 Ronald has been active within the emergency management arena. He gained his experience in the operational field where he held different roles and functions on a local, regional, national and international level.

On the regional and national level, he was involved in developing plans and procedures, running projects and as a policy advisor. In addition to his 30 years of experience which was gained through learning by doing, he also holds a master’s degree in Crisis and Public Order management.

With a background in the Dutch Fire Service both as a volunteer and full time, Ronald gained experience through a variety of (functional) roles. Since 2003 he has been active as a trainer/consultant within multi-disciplinary emergency management organisations. In addition, since 2007 he has been active internationally as an expert with the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), as well as an UNDAC member for the United Nations (since 2010). He has been on mission to the Philippines in 2013 as UCPM team member and to Haiti in 2016 as UNDAC deputy team leader.

Since 2015 Ronald is involved in innovation in Learning and Development as well in the operational context. From 2015 until 2020 he was advising the Dutch Police (Academy) on how to support learning by using innovative solutions. Since 2018 he is the chair of the Dutch Network Digital Simulations and since february 2020 he is the Chief Innovation Officer for the Resilience Advisors Network. He currently works as a senior advisor for the Dutch consultancy firm Scherp in Veiligheid.
