Myrto is a Chemical Engineer with a double degree from NTUA and Politecnico di Milano, an M.Sc. in Computational Engineering and a Ph.D. in Industrial Safety. with more than 20 years' experience in QRA of industrial installations and Accident analysis.

Myrto's main focus of research has been on the causes of Industrial Accidents in the Oil and Gas sector (including offshore) as well as on the integration of Human Factors in the risk assessment, safety management and investigation of major accidents.

Experience includes: Safety Analysis of industrial plants; Consequence Analysis for industrial accidents; Human Reliability Analysis using human-cognition methodologies; Evaluation of Emerging risks and Na-Tech accident analysis; Statistical and predictive analysis of accidents and incidents (including near misses); Evaluation of safety assessment reports for SEVESO plants in Greece and Issuing of Guidelines and Safety manuals for different industrial sectors.

Myrto has also participated in many European and National research projects and Coordination actions on Industrial Safety and Crisis Management. For those projects she has collaborated with chemical industries on national and European level as well as with regulatory authorities, competent authorities and other research and academic institutes in Europe. She has provided scientific support to the issuing of the European Directive 2013/30/EU on "Safety of offshore oil and gas prospection, exploration and production activities" and acted as technical secretary of the EU Offshore Authorities Group.

MIn addition, Myrto has assisted several Competent Authorities in Europe to develop according to the requirements of the implemented Directive. She works also on the transport of Dangerous Goods by developing relevant tools with advanced technologies for the recognition and safe passage of dangerous goods through tunnels, the effective management of emergency situations in case of an accident with hazardous substances and the education of drivers in relevant issues.
