Sue Southern QPM served 30 years as a Police Officer in West Midlands Police before retiring as Assistant Chief Constable in April 2020. Sue worked in a number of specialist fields including Counter Terrorism, Serious & Organised Crime (SOC), Public Protection and Local Policing. In 2017 she took up the post of Deputy Director Commodities in the National Crime Agency leading the UK's strategic response to firearms, drugs, dark web markets and county lines. Establishing the National County Lines Coordination Centre to tackle the exploitation of vulnerable young people into trafficking drugs.

Sue has over 15 years experience in offender management and safeguarding working with a range of multi-agency partners to address the offending behavior of those involved in gangs, sex offending, terrorism and SOC. As the Regional lead for Prevent within Counter Terrorism she established referral pathways, multi-agency panels and was instrumental in lobbying government to place attendance at Chanel panels on a statutory footing. Sue has contributed to a number of Home Office reviews into Prevent and Serious Organised Crime, whilst also sitting on National working groups.

Sue has been passionate for many years about developing and supporting others and ensuring equality of opportunity, leading the Diversity and Inclusion agenda within WMP, and as the Strategic Force and National Crime Agency lead for the Gender and LGBTQ networks. Sue has mentored and coached both officers and staff and was also a Syndicate Director on the 2020 College of Policing Strategic Command Course supporting the development of future senior leaders.

It is testament to her commitment and dedication that she was awarded the Queens Police Medal in 2019 for her work in Counter Terrorism Policing, the National Crime Agency and driving the agenda on Diversity and Inclusion.
